Twelve years ago, Brenda and I packed our bags, said “Goodbye” to our families and headed to the Utah Mountains for a weekend retreat. Brenda had three small children under the age of three and we were both working full time as nurses. We needed a break!!! After three blissful days of snipping, clipping, and stitching we were “hooked” and our incredible journey had begun.

It was not long before we started talking about starting our own quilting business. We had both been sewing since we were little girls with mothers, grandmothers, and friends but had not acquired too many quilting skills. We are not sure if we were “bitten” by the quilting bug or were blessed with a genetic defect…Chromosome Q. Either way, we continued to pack our bags for ten more years and head up into the mountains.

Growth springs from unexpected sources and although we loved quilting for the sake of quilting, we quickly learned that quilting was not just about making quilts. The more we pieced, the more quilts began to change our lives. We have formed lasting friendships; shared laughter and love, and learned how a quilt can touch people’s lives. Quilts can give us comfort and joy in our brightest and darkest moments, whether we are celebrating weddings and births, or comforting sorrow and illness. When you give away a quilt, you give away a piece of your heart. When you receive a quilt, you know someone spent many hours thinking of you.
